Malc Cornwell Masterclass Day Decoy Lakes

brilliant catch Malc
This was a special 60th birthday present from Malc’s wife Dorothy. The wonderful Decoy lakes near Whittlesey in Cambridgeshire was the chosen venue. Diane the owner had kindly allowed him to use keepnets.
It was a warm summer morning with a moderate North Westerly wind. I decided Elm lake with the wind on our backs would be a good choice.
Malc with his first fish
Pole was the chosen method, cupping in 4mm hard feed carp pellets with a banded 6mm pellet on the hook. It only took about 2 minutes and Malc hooked into a big fish which turned out to be a 7lb mirror carp. More good fished followed. A switch to up in the water loose feeding with a 4mm banded pellet on the hook resulted in a good run of carp and F1’s. The last two hours were spent on the bottom in the deep margins and the swim was full of quality barbel. Both nets had reached the 50lb maximum.
the barbel were feeding well
We left the bank at about 4 pm and I guess Malc had caught about 110lbs.
