Match report World Pairs Angling Championship 2012

Phil Jackson and Cathal Hughes scoop the massive £30,000 prize, with a fantastic 5 day team performance weighing a total of 117,560 kg, with the paring of Mark Pollard and Derek Willan only 4 kg behind with 112,990 kg. Overall individual winner was Ballyconnel hotel owner Francis McGoldrick.

Named as the Richest wild angling match ever with a £60,000 prize fund The lakelands and inland Waterways World Pairs Angling Championship was fished throughout the Lakelands region of Ireland with 130 pairs competing: I had a tough week with only about a 33 kg total: my pairs partner Gary Whalley had some really terrible draws and could only manage about 6 kg for the week. My only success was on day 3 when I caught 140 roach on the feeder for just under 14 kg which gave me a section and 3rd overall in my zone.

Despite my own lack of success, it really was a brilliant match, with even the 18th pairing getting £1000. Match organiser Kevin Lock achieved what seemed like the imposable, with the 3 main area zones so far apart, but it all went smoothly and I heard no complaints whatsoever, only compliments. Well done Kevin you did a tremendous job. Log on to www.worldanglingpairs.com for all the detailed results.
