Maver Pairs Round 1 River Welland Spalding 30.12.2012

my catch 180 roach just over 28lbs

The town Welland was in brilliant form for the first round of the new Maver Pairs event with quality roach showing along the whole length. The recent heavy rain left the river well colored, but with all the flood water going down the Coronation Channel the town river just had a gentle flow providing perfect feeding conditions for the hungry roach.

John Oaks came out on top with a brilliant 30lbs 2ozs of big roach loose feeding hemp with a single tare on the hook.

I was just 2lbs behind with 28lbs 4ozs for 2nd overall. I had a slow start catching only 1 fish in the first 30minutes. A switch to fishing halfway down my peg, cupping in punch crumb with punched bread on the hook saw my catch rate improve dramatically and I finished with 180 fish.

my match setup

Steve Winter was 3rd with 27lbs 7ozs. The pairs winners were John Oaks and Pete Jayes with 44lbs 3ozs.
