Mahons Festival 2015

Mahons festival is fished on the river and lower lough Errne, Enniskillen, County Fermaagh, Northern Ireland. This year 80 anglers were competing over 5 days on a section rotation basis.

Kevin Locke had a brilliant last day weighing over 32 kg of bream to win the day and finish 1st overall with 55,790 kg. In second place was German angler Rudiger Hansen with 45,950 kg. Third was Andy Leathers with 44,780 kg. I finished out of the main list in 13th place with 25,150 kg.

On the 1st day I drew on Boa Island, caught a few perch on the pole and 2 hybrids on the feeder for 3,800 kg.

Day 2 I was on Cornagrade. The river was running very fast. I just caught a few fish on the pole and 4 roach on the feeder for 2,850 kg.

Day 3 I was on the river again, this time at Derrychara. The river was still running hard so I opted to fish a feeder close in at about 20 mts. I had a great day catching 35 fish including a 2 kg bream, and weighed 10,550 kg which was enough to win my zone.

Day 4 was really difficult. I drew peg 24 at Ely Forest. There had been very few fish caught in that area all week and today was no exception. I fished a window feeder at 75 mts and had my 1st bite after 4 hours, finished the match with just 4 roach for 1,150kg.

Day 5 I was back on the river again at Portora School and had a good day mostly on the pole fishing an overshotted 6 gram float with maggot and caster on the hook catching 30 roach which was enough to win the section with 6,850 kg.
