This was a special 65th birthday present from Alan’s son Gareth who had also come along for the day. Decoy lakes near Whittlesey in Cambridgeshire was the chosen venue. Diane the owner had kindly allowed them both to use keepnets.

It was a cold spring morning with a cool moderate westerly wind. Six Islands lake with a high bank offered some shelter so I decided to fish there.

Both anglers opted to fish the pole and were soon catching well, feeding using a small pot plus loose feeding over the top. 4mm Van Den Eynde expander pellets were the chosen hookbait. Alan later switched to a banded 4mm hard pellet.

We left the bank at about 4pm Alan having caught his best weight ever close to 90lbs and Gareth over 100lbs.
