David Cheesley Masterclass Day Decoy Lakes
August 2nd 2014
fantastic catch Dave
This was a special birthday present from David’s wife Angie. His brother Gary had also come along for the day. The wonderful Decoy Lakes was the chosen venue. Diane the owner had kindly allowed them to use keepnets.
Dave with his first fish
It was an overcast morning with a threat of some heavy showers. I was surprised to find some pegs on Beastie lake free, and having not been on there this year. I was keen to find out how it was fishing.
Gary’s first fish
Dave opted to fish the pole in the margins, loose feeding with 4mm hard feed carp pellets, with a 6mm hair rigged banded pellet. He was soon catching, first put in was a 3lb koy on the drop, followed by a succession of carp, tench, barbel and bream. It was an incredible session with nonstop action. Gary also was catching really well on the method feeder, using fishmeal groundbait and well soaked 2mm carp pellets as feed with 2 grains of hair rigged red sweetcorn on the hook.
Gary was catching with a method feeder
We left the bank at about 4pm, Dave having caught over 100lbs and Gary about 70lbs.

Richard Carroll Masterclass Day Decoy Lakes
August 5th 2014
fantastic catch Richard
This was a special 50th birthday present from Richard’s partner Sandi and his family. The wonderful Decoy lakes near Whittlesey in Cambridgeshire was the chosen venue. Sandi had also come along for the day. Diane the owner had kindly allowed them both to use keepnets.
Sandi with her first fish
It was a mild overcast morning with a light southerly breeze. I decided that Cedar lake would be a good choice. Richard started on the pole in the deep margins loose feeding with 4mm hard feed carp pellets with a banded 6mm pellet on a hair rig and was soon catching a fish every put in. It was unbelievable action and by 2 pm Richard had reached his net limit and was retuning fish as he caught them. Sandi had opted to fish the method feeder with a banded 6mm pellet on the hook, tipped with 2 red maggots to attract the barbel and was also catching really well.
Richard with his first fish
We left the bank at about 4 pm Richard having caught close to 150lbs and Sandi about 60 lbs.

Steve and Louis Worton Masterclass Day Decoy Lakes
August 11th 2014
fantastic catch Steve
Steve had booked his dad Louis and himself for a Masterclass Day. The wonderful Decoy lakes near Whittlesey in Cambridgeshire was the chosen venue. Diane the owner had kindly allowed them both to use keepnets.
Louis with his first fish
It was a cool morning with a strong southerly wind, the UK was suffering from the tail end of a hurricane. I decided the Cedar lake would be a good choice.
Steve with his first fish
The stormy conditions did not upset the fish. Both anglers started on the pole in the deep margins, loose feeding with 4 and 6mm hard feed carp pellets with a banded 6mm pellet on the hook. It was action right from the start and never stopped as each of them were catching a succession of quality carp and barbel.
two mirror carp both over 10lbs
With their net limit of 50lbs reached by 2pm they were returning fish as they caught them and I guess when we packed away just after 4pm that Louis had caught about 130lbs and Steve around 170lbs.

brilliant catch Colin
This was a special joint Christmas present from Anita for husband Colin and son Steve. The wonderful Decoy Lakes near Whittlesey in Cambridgeshire was the chosen venue. Diane the owner had kindly allowed them both to use keepnets.
Colin’s first fish
It was a warm overcast morning with a light southerly breeze. Heavy showers and storms had been forecast for later in the day. I decided that Elm lake would be a good choice.
Steve with his first fish
Colin loves to fish method feeder and was catching within 5 minutes, casting a flat bed feeder to the middle with a 6mm banded pellet on a hair rig and tipping it with 2 red maggots. He was catching almost every put in. The action never slowed. Steve had a slower start, fishing a pole in the deep margins with a 6mm banded pellet and loose feeding with 4mm hard feed carp pellets. Once the fish settled then the action never stopped. The last 2 hours were bringing a good run of barbell. He had reached his net limit before the end and was returning fish as he caught them.

We left the bank at about 4.30 pm Colin having caught close to 100lbs and Steve about 130 lbs.

brilliant catch Paul
This was a special 60th birthday present from Paul’s son Mark, who had also come along for the day. The wonderful Decoy lakes near Whittlesey in Cambridgeshire was the chosen venue. Diane the owner had kindly allowed them to use keepnets.
Pauls first fish
It was a cool summer morning with a moderate southerly wind. I decided that Elm lake would be a good choice.
Mark with his first fish
Paul started in the deep margins, loose feeding with 4mm hard feed carp pellets with a 6mm banded pellet, and hooked into a fish after about 5 minutes. It was steady fishing, which improved once he switched to fishing out at 10 mts. Mark meanwhile was catching a fish every cast fishing in the margins up in the water with an 8mm pellet on a band, and within 2 hours of fishing had reached the 50lb limit on both nets and was returning the fish as he caught them.
a big fish boils on the surface
We left the bank at about 4.30 pm Paul having caught close to 100lbs. Mark had used a clicker to record his fish and after 6 hours fishing had recorded a fantastic 290lbs.
