Match report Lakeland Hotel Loch Ramor Festival 2010

September 5th, 2010

Adverse weather conditions kept weights lower than normal. It was flat calm on the first day and then gale force winds on day 3 and 4.

Mark Theedom had a brilliant day 2 winning catch of 30 kg. This was enough to keep him in front for a festival winning total of 61,820 kg. Brenton Sweeney was only 2 kg behind with a great all round performance for 59,550 kg and 2nd overall. Dave McNiece was also very close with 58,600 kg for 3rd place. Kevin Ashurst finished 4th with 56,960 kg.

It was not really a good festival for me. I won my section on the first day with just over 5 kg.

Day 2 was much better: I finished 2nd overall with 21 kg of roach on the pole.

Day 3 was tough and the fish disappeared after 2 hours and I only managed 10 kg.

And day 4 was so rough I could only fish the tip for just under 6 kg. In the end I could only manage 15 overall with a total weight of 42,550 kg

Pete Hibbertson Masterclass Day at Decoy Lakes (24.08.2010)

September 4th, 2010

This was a special birthday present from Pete’s wife. His best fishing friend Trevor had also come along for the day. The chosen venue was the fantastic Decoy Lakes near Whittlesea in Cambridgeshire.

Pete with a beautiful F1

We decided to fish on Horseshoe lake. It’s great for fishing up in the water and there are some big F1’s. Pete was into a carp within 2 minutes. Loose feeding with 4mm Van den Eynde carp pellets and using a 6mm banded pellet on the hook at about 2ft deep was incredible as carp after carp came to the net. It was an arm aching non stop action.

Trevor with a big F1

Trevor started on the bottom and was catching tench and carp. A switch to the surface increased his catch rate and he had a great last 3 hours. We did the catch shots at about 4pm, I guess Pete had caught about 100lbs and Trevor after his late start on the surface had about 50lbs.

fantastic catch Pete

I left both anglers still fishing. What a fantastic day, well done Pete and Trevor.

Pellets of the month September – Van Den Eynde Halibut Jellets

September 3rd, 2010

Van Den Eynde Halibut Jellets

This soft 6mm hooker pellet just oozes with rich Halibut oil. It’s perfect for carp and stillwater barbell. It’s soft but fibrous texture allows it to be used on pole, waggler or feeder.

It can also be hair rigged for using on the pellet method feeder. Use a double bait when targeting big fish.

Bob is back

September 1st, 2010

Tostedt. Tackle giant Zebco Sports Europe announces that the 4 times individual world champion Bob Nudd is returning into the Browning family, which he has been member of already for more than 28 years. This partnership discontinued in April 2008 (in fact one of the longest partnerships between a sponsored angler and a fishing tackle manufacturer), when Bob Nudd decided that it was time for a change and when he went to Fox.

Obviously it was good that Bob left Browning and its team with the feeling of being still good friends. Though Bob states that he enjoyed the time with Fox, he admits that his move was a mistake. He missed Browning and the Browning family of sponsored anglers and supporters more than he thought when he was leaving. Probably no wonder after such a long and trustful cooperation. Besides, up to now still many anglers aren’t even aware that Bob was “away” ever, as people come on shows to the Browning booth regularly and ask about how Bob is.

Peter Delwes, managing director of Zebco Sports Europe, comments: “We are happy that Bob has decided to continue his impressive career with the for him characteristic white cap and the Browning buck head on it. We will involve him obviously in product development and product testing again. But his biggest strength is without any doubts his role as an ambassador on the banks of the water. Surely anglers will meet Bob on a lot of shows in the future too, as well in UK as in other countries in Europe, where we send him to. People just like to meet with Bob – and so do we!”

Robert James Nudd is one of the most successful coarse fishermen in the world and during his long career in the renowned burgundy colours, has gained victory of numerous Championships, with 4 X single ‘World Championships’ and 7 X ‘World Championships’ with the Team England. Bob’s lifetime has been dedicated towards his fishing, and has produced a full library of Angling Videos and DVDs. Bob’s sympathetic nature and willingness to offer advice and tips to all, has over the decades created countless followers all in admiration of his ability.

Pete Sarling Masterclass Day at Cross Drove Fishery (23.08.2010)

August 31st, 2010

This was a special 60th birthday present from Pete’s family. The beautiful Cross Drove Fishery near Hockwold in Suffolk was the chosen venue.

first fish of the day

After a long break from fishing Pete was eager to try out his new pole, using a small trickle pot and feeding each time with some red maggots and well soaked 2mm Van Den Eynde carp pellets, with 2 red maggots on the hook, it took about 15 mins before the first fish, which was a bream about 2lbs.

Van Den Eynde 2mm carp pellets

Then the bites increased. It was really steady all day as bream and carp came to the net. There was even a catfish and a big eel.

great catch Pete

We left the bank at about 4pm, Pete having caught about 40lbs of fish. Not bad for his first time on the pole.

Simon Cainey Masterclass Day at Holly Farm (20.08.2010)

August 30th, 2010

This was a special Fathers day present from Simon’s wife Lanetta and the children. The wonderful Holly Farm near Ashby Magna in Leicestershire was the chosen venue. Simon had already been out with me once before in April this year. Well I must say he is lucky, all I get from my daughters is a pair of socks!!!!

Simon with his first fish

We decided to fish on the canal lake. It’s full of carp, crucians and tench. Cupping in 2mm well soaked carp pellets and a few red maggots in a small pot on the pole with a Van Den Eynde Natural Jellet on the hook, within 5 minutes Simon was into his first fish. Loose feeding a few 4mm carp pellets over the top as well seemed to bring the bigger carp into the swim.

cupping in with a small pot on the far bank

Simon was catching fish after fish. Some were being lost in the rushes on the far bank, but really it was an all action day.

great catch Simon

We left the bank just after 4pm and I guess he had caught about 70lbs of carp and tench. What a fantastic days fishing.

Vinny Foster Masterclass Day at Hayfield Lakes (19.08.2010)

August 29th, 2010

This was a special father’s day present from Vinny’s daughter Sophie. His fishing friend Macca had also come along for the day. The beautiful Hayfield Lakes near Doncaster was the chosen venue.

Vinny with his first fish of the day

Pole was the method, cupping in 4mm well soaked carp pellets and then loose feeding with 4mm pellets over the top at about 8mts. Hookbait was a 6mm Van Den Eynde Jellet. Macca was soon into a fish, Vinny also hooked into an early carp. Both anglers continued to catch well. The fish are big here and so it’s quality rather than quantity.

Macca with a 6lb mirror carp

A switch to fishing up in the water with a banded 6mm pellet resulted in 3 more big mirror carp for Vinny.

great catch Vinny

I left the bank at about 4pm. Both anglers were still fishing. I guess Vinny had caught about 60lbs and Macca around 35lbs, both anglers having had a great day.

Keith Thompson Masterclass Day at Decoy Lakes (18.08.2010)

August 25th, 2010

This was a special 65th birthday from Keith’s son Jason. His good friend Bob Grycuk had also come along for the day. They both came out with me last year. The fantastic Decoy Lakes near Whittlesea in Cambridgeshire was the chosen venue.

Keith with his first fish of the day

Pole was the method, cupping in 4mm and 6mm Van Den Eynde carp pellets with a 8mm cube of luncheon meat or a jellet on the hook.

concentration from Keith

They were both soon into fish, small barbel, tench and carp. A switch to fishing near the surface with a banded 6mm pellet was much better, as the carp were larger and coming much quicker.

a good mirror carp for Bob

Keith was having a great day loose feeding with 4mm carp pellets and then just waiting for the elastic to fly out as the carp hit the bait. 24inches deep seemed to be the best, but sometimes as shallow as 12 inches. Bob was also catching well. He loves to fish chopped worm, but the small perch were proving to be a nuisance.

Keith with just part of his catch

We left the bank at about 4pm as usual at Decoy. It had been an all action day, Keith having caught about 90lbs of F1’s and tench and Bob about 50lbs. What a great day.

Nick Harte Masterclass day at Pisces Country Park (17.08.2010)

August 18th, 2010

This was a special 30th birthday present from Nick’s brother Michael, who had also come along for the day. The silver fish lake at the beautiful Pisces Country Park near Welney in Norfolk was the chosen venue.

Nick with his first fish of the day

Pole in the margins was the chosen method. It was the first time that either of them had used the pole, loose feeding by hand with 4mm Van Den Eynde carp pellets and some red maggots, with either 2 maggots or a Van Den Eynde natural Jellet 6mm pellet on the hook.

Michael helps with the net

The action was non stop for both anglers as quality roach, rudd and bream came to the net. The jellets caught the bigger fish. The bream just loved them.

great catch Nick

We left the bank at about 4pm, both of them had had one of the best days fishing ever. I am guessing they had caught about 60lbs. What a great day.

Match report Cross Drove Qualifier (15.08.2010)

August 17th, 2010

The match record was smashed today. Dave Pearce Jnr. (Wisbech) drew peg 47 and caught 18 carp up to 15lbs for a fantastic winning weight of 165lbs 3ozs.

Alan Tuck with a massive 23lb common carp

Alan Tuck (Van Den Eynde) also had big carp in his catch including one of 23lbs. Alan drew peg 23 and fished catmeat and corn on the pole for 76lbs 2ozs.

Dave Pearce finished 3rd

Dave Pearce Snr. (Wisbech) was 3rd with 72lbs 10ozs.

view from my peg 21

I drew peg 21 and fished catmeat and corn on the pole towards the island for just under 40lbs.

I had just under 40lbs

30 anglers fished on a warm but windy day. As usual you can never tell where the winning weight will come from.

it was hard work for Rob on the scales today

Simon Wheeler was 5th with 57lbs 14ozs

The big carp fed everywhere, with 54lbs needed for 8th overall.
