Roger Tanner Masterclass day at Lake John (24.06.2010)
This was a special 60th birthday present from Roger’s wife Marion. The fantastic Lake John Fishery near Waltham Abbey in Hertfordshire was the chosen venue.
1st fish a 2lb bream
The owner Colin had reserved a peg and kindly allowed us to use a keepnet. Roger loves to fish with the pole, so this was the chosen method.
the feed was 6mm luncheon meat
Loose feeding with 6mm cubes of luncheon meat with meat on the hook and fishing near the surface was deadly. In less than a minute Roger had a 1.5lb bream in the net. The action was fast and furious as a mixture of roach, rudd, bream and skimmers were hooked.
a good rudd about 1lb
A switch to fishing in the margins with meat resulted in a big tench, some good perch and also a crucian carp. By 1pm I had to put another keepnet in. The limit here is 50lbs per net.
just part of Rogers 70lb catch
We left the bank at about 4pm. I guess Roger had caught somewhere around 80lbs of fish. What a brilliant days fishing, well done Roger.
